When we think of 1940's make up we assume everyone wandered round looking like starletts of the era.

Make up was often scarce and a lot more simple than the eye flick, fake lashes, beauty spot, rouge, base and red lip that we emulate now.
In the same way we don't rock out looking like Kim Kardashian or Lady Gaga when we pop to the shops the same is true of everyday women of the WWII era.
